Hotel Otani

Although the facilities are old, the rooms are spacious and very clean, better than some higher-rated hotels I’ve stayed at. Chiba Farmhouse Inn is welcoming and offers excellent value for the price.

I checked out immediately once I realized this place seemed suited to ruin enthusiasts. I’d arrived expecting a grand hotel from its name, but the drive took me along a narrow path through a cedar forest. The room had what looked like rotting floorboards, and the carpet bounced and wobbled. Moldy smell filled the room. When I turned on the kerosene fan heater, the smell of partly burned kerosene spread through the room and my eyes started stinging. I opened the bathroom door to see if it was any better, and found an old tub like something from a Showa-era Tokyo Metropolitan Housing complex. Then I pulled back the bedspread, ready to sleep, and there was a huge centipede, like a rubber toy, on the bed! Ah, now I understand. This must be a hotel for ruin enthusiasts. Anyone interested in places like this, please visit at least once!

Watch out for insect bites ⚠️ See a dermatologist. It’s really dangerous.

I absolutely wouldn’t recommend this place. The room was damp and musty throughout, the cleaning was sloppy, and the staff were stingy. They didn’t even provide a toothbrush. The food was awful too, so if you absolutely have to come, stay overnight only. Everything seems to be done as cheaply as possible. The facilities and service show no sense of hospitality. This hotel will make you think there’s no place like home.
