The owner was happy to keep our bags after checkout and even let us eat a boxed lunch in the first-floor lobby. He also chatted with us and suggested places to eat. I'd read reviews saying he was unfriendly, but that wasn't our experience. He doesn't go in for lots of service or explanations, and that suited us just fine. The inn is clean, business-hotel-like, and well located in downtown Chichijima. There are no meals, but it was easy to find somewhere to eat nearby. The ferry terminal is only about a five-minute walk away.

November 27, 2022 This place doesn't serve meals, and the rooms are cleaned each day. Bedding, bath towels, and face towels are supplied. There are two washing machines, both with spin cycles. Detergent costs 100 yen per load at the front desk, but the desk isn't always staffed. It's probably easier to pick up a five-load pack at Sato Shoten beforehand for 170 yen. On Ogasawara, laundry should dry indoors as long as it doesn't rain. For breakfast, I'll grab a bento or rice ball from Sato Shoten. Thanks, Sato Shoten.

It's a convenient base, close to Futami Port, two supermarkets, and plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The rooms facing the ocean look out over a park, and hearing children play there is really soothing. Rooms are cleaned and towels replaced every day. There's a kitchenette and kettle in each room, and a toaster and microwave in the lobby. Two washing machines are free to use. There's also an outdoor shower and washbasin.

I was grateful we could rinse our wetsuits and gear in the back area beside the entrance. At first I figured the owner, Ishipi, might be a little reserved, but we ran into him at the izakaya and had a nice chat. He's a really good guy, and I had a great time 🍺 The weather wasn't very good during this visit, so we only got in one dive. Still, we did see a sand tiger shark 🦈, which made me happy.
