The restaurant looks out over Kanmon Bridge and the big ships moving through the Kanmon Strait, which makes for a fantastic view. It’s also a handy base for Shimonoseki: Kaikyo Yume Tower is an easy walk, and there are plenty of nearby spots for fresh seafood, especially blowfish (Fugu). A good pick if views and local food are what you’re after.

The room felt stuck in the 1980s, down to the old-fashioned bronze knob and regular key instead of a magnetic card. It really needs an infrastructure update. The window was fixed shut, and when I asked for a key to open it, the request was refused for safety reasons. Ventilation was poor enough that I eventually had to ask for a fan. This was my second trip to Japan, and while I know the rent affects what you get, this seemed like too much for a modern, developed country. A very disappointing experience.

Karato Fish market and Kamonwharf are both within walking distance. The room felt a bit dated, and the carpet looked dirty. Parking costs extra.

There aren't any convenience stores or shops close by, though Yume Tower is nearby and gives the area a different feel. I had a relaxing stay in the spacious room and shower room. Dinner was fresh and tasty, and the night view made it even better. The staff were impressively attentive and efficient.
