Shimonoseki Station Hotel

The hotel is only a couple of minutes on foot from Shimonoseki Station, and breakfast is included even with the capsule plan. That, along with the modest public bath and a sauna that was a bit lukewarm, made it a bargain for me. I booked a capsule room for less than ¥4,000 and still got my own private space. The fixed rate suits business travelers who want to keep lodging costs down and have somewhere to work on a computer, though phone calls aren't allowed. With the Jalan coupon offered on the 20th each month, the rate can drop below ¥3,000. I paid ¥2,700, lol. I'd recommend it to people who'd rather spend their budget on sightseeing, and to anyone trying a capsule hotel for the first time.

I slept comfortably here, and the service was good. It took a little knack to get the door unlocked, but I'd stay again. The place is somewhat old, though well kept. My weekday twin-room stay with breakfast was ¥7,500, plus ¥600 for parking in the lot right behind the hotel. I asked ahead for two pillows because hotel pillows often sink too much, and they kindly had them waiting in the room. I fold my pillow in half, so I appreciated that. One thing to know: there are no outlets by the bed, only two at the table. Bring an extension cord if you need one nearby.

The location is a real plus, with the station less than a five-minute walk away and plenty of restaurants around. My package included a mostly Japanese breakfast of rice, miso soup, grilled fish and blanched vegetables, with no bread. Service wasn't an issue and I felt comfortable with the staff. What let the room down was mold in the bathroom, especially around the plumbing, and a faucet that didn't work properly. The mold seems like something better cleaning could address, so I hope the hotel takes care of it. Thanks for the hospitality, and I hope the rooms improve to match the convenient location.

The complimentary breakfast was a nice deal, with rice, miso soup, grilled fish and simmered dishes, and I could also use the large public bath. I stayed in a reasonably priced semi-private capsule room, equipped with a desk, chair and lockable closet. The building is old, but the renovated interior and rooms were clean and comfortable. It's just a two-minute walk from the east exit of Shimonoseki Station. I was here in early September 2025 on an island-hopping trip around Yamaguchi Prefecture, and would stay again if I get the chance.
