Skyheart Hotel Shimonoseki

The price was just 6,600 yen for a roomy double with enough space for a sofa, and parking for around 30 cars was free. That made Sky Heart Hotel Shimonoseki feel like good value. The building is a bit old, though the service was impeccable, and check-in at the front desk was quick and suited a business hotel. The parking lot is open to the public, which came in handy for going to and from Karato Market the next morning. The large bath switches between men and women on a schedule. A staff member changes the sign when it's time, but sometimes the sign may not have been changed yet, so you may need to let them know (lol). That setup could feel a little unsettling for women. If security is a concern, check ahead. Guest room showers and washlets also have weak water pressure, so I'd use the large bath if possible. For this price range, the room size, location and free parking are attractive. I think it's a worthwhile choice for anyone looking for value.

There weren't any places to have dinner nearby, at least not without driving, and we couldn't find a parking spot, so we ended up buying something at a convenience store. When we opened the window, there was a grave outside. 🪦🙏 We stayed on the last weekend of February in R8. The building is old, which can't be helped, and the closet was old and hard to open. The public bath is shared by men and women at different times of day. I really hate having to use the same bath, so only my son went. 🛁 I'd had a similar bath experience at another hotel and, honestly, it was dirty. They said there isn't much time for cleaning, but I wish they'd clean it properly. We didn't use this bath here, but the other experience left me traumatized. Some hotels simply say the large bath is for men only.

The rooms are spacious, and there's a large public bath. The facilities are old, but the price is reasonable. It's a bit of a walk, though handy if you're heading to the fishing port or shopping street.
