Seifuen

The meals were the highlight, especially having our own dining room and such good service. It gave my son room to play while we ate, and his homemade food was tasty too, though expensive. I stayed in the newer building in a tatami room, so I can’t speak for the other building or the western-style rooms. The hot springs were lovely, and the dry sauna at around 88-90°C was just right for me. The rooms are a bit old and the futons weren’t thick enough. The garden looked nice and had a foot spa, but it was cold, so I didn’t try either. Breakfast was mostly Japanese, as you’d expect at a traditional Japanese hotel, and it was tasty, but I wished there were a few more Western options. I left feeling like something was missing. I keep wavering between calling this a 3.5-star or 4-star place.

The twin room was clean and spacious, with two beds, so it didn’t feel like a classic Japanese-style inn. Seifuen is one of the longest-established hot springs inns in Kamiyamada hot springs resort, and the different hot springs and sauna were fantastic.

The staff were friendly and helpful. A good hotel.
