The modern rooms and facilities looked quite new, and the place made a good first impression as an authentic Japanese style resort. Most of check-in is digital, with little contact with staff, which may suit some people, but it doesn't feel like hospitality to me. We arrived after the 4 pm check-in and found that the “kitchen,” which serves vegan burgers, is only open at lunch. The only restaurant open in town served meat BBQ, so we were disappointed. You need to travel 20 minutes to find other restaurant options. The next morning, the “spa” and onsen were closed for cleaning. They don't reopen until 11, which is also checkout time, and the rooms have NO bathroom or shower. That left us heavily disappointed again. Why can't they clean the facilities between checkout and check-in? Knowing all this, the value for money is an absolute catastrophe.

We picked this modern-looking hotel for a one-night stay because it had an on-site onsen and was supposed to serve vegan burgers. The lake-view family room was a bit small, though the hotel and rooms looked modern. Check-in starts only after 4:00 PM, and by the time we arrived the restaurant serving vegan burgers was already closed. We also found that the onsen wouldn't open again until 11:00 AM, exactly when we had to check out. There was no private bathroom in the room either. We've stayed at quite a few Japanese hotels, but have never been disappointed in so many ways.

It’s comfortable, and the surrounding area is decent. The rooms could use better sound insulation, though. Most facilities were closed during our stay, with only the bakery open. I also thought charging infants half the adult price was excessive when nothing extra was provided.

The staff were fantastic, and I had a lovely stay. When I had car trouble, they helped me out even though it had nothing to do with Base. That kindness let me relax and enjoy the visit.

I found the water really pleasant and warming, even though it’s heated, and its acidic pH of 5.25 made the soak relaxing. But as a day-trip hot spring, I gave it a low rating. The promotional brochures show the women’s “Twin Bath,” which could give visitors the wrong impression of what’s available in the men’s “Garden Bath.” I went on Sunday. This facility opened in April 2023 and also has accommodation and a restaurant. The entrance fee has already gone up to 1000 yen. The men’s bath is small, with just five washing areas, and there’s no open-air bath, sauna, jets, or jacuzzi. It felt much like a local public bathhouse and not very good value.
