Toyoko Inn Meitetsu Chiryu Ekimae

There are restaurants and bars nearby where you can hang out, and the town is livelier at night than I expected from my first impression. The hotel is close to the station, and Nagoya is about a 20-minute train ride away.

Getting around was easy thanks to the train, bus, and taxi stands nearby, and the staff were friendly and helpful whenever they could be. Our small double room was clean and adequate for what we needed, and the rate matched the level of luxury and convenience. But for our six-night stay there was nowhere to put our clothes or suitcase. The bed was western style, though it felt almost like sleeping on a futon on the floor. The “matress” may actually have been a box spring. It is a business hotel, so I suspect we were the only ones bothered by it. I’d stay again, but might buy a futon matress. We had no trouble getting around apart from not speaking Japanese.

There are plenty of food options nearby, and the bus and train terminals are close. The rooms were clean, if a little small, and the service was good. You can’t get into your room early unless you pay extra.

Chiryu seems mostly like a commuter town, with plenty of rail traffic to and from Nagoya, though the town itself is relatively quiet. This was the predictable Toyoko branch, nicely equipped with USB powerpoints and a built-in ceiling shower. Everything was okay apart from the self-service check-in machine being out of order, part of an issue affecting several other Toyoko Inn's right now.
