Inubousaki Kanko Hotel

Dinner and breakfast were excellent and well worth trying. The hotel is old, with service that feels consistently traditional, and it’s about a five-minute walk from Inubosaki Station. A shortcut through the parking lot leads from the hotel to the beach lighthouse. We had rain during our visit, so missed the sunrise and sunset. The room bathroom felt vintage and wasn’t very clean, and there was just one towel, perhaps because guests are expected to use the public bath. It rained heavily at checkout, and the hotel offered a free ride to the station. You don’t need to reserve it, but you do need to let them know.

The location is right on the ocean, with a beach walk and a swimmable beach about five minutes away on foot. If the weather’s clear, you can see the sun come up from your room. The staff work hard to keep the place running, and the rooms are spacious. The concrete building is very deteriorated, though, and inside there’s no real design, just things piled up like in an untidy living room. It’s an okay choice if you’re fine with a messy atmosphere and aren’t trying to impress anyone. Don’t expect calm or luxury, just enjoy the beach.

The inn sits right beside the ocean, so you can enjoy an open-air hot spring and watch the sunrise while you bathe. They also serve really good fish dishes, which I think you’ll enjoy.

An oldie but a goodie. You can walk to the beach, then relax and read on the outdoor wood deck while keeping an eye on the rest of the family at the beach. There’s a kids’ area, and the nearby aquarium, lighthouse, and fish market are handy stops on the drive home. We had a great family weekend, especially since it overlapped with the town fireworks. Repeat guests get rewarded.
