We landed at 7:10 PM after a slight flight delay, and the staff kindly welcomed us and carried the two girls’ luggage upstairs. Dinner was served as individual dishes. I figured two or three would be enough, but after I finished my rice they brought freshly cooked udon in a small bowl, followed by sweet-and-sour spicy glass noodles. We were completely full. It was tasty, though I’d suggest arriving earlier so you can eat while everything is freshly made. Before booking, I’d been unsure because photos of this traditional Japanese inn, including the ones I’d posted, looked dated. But Saturdays near Lake Toya were way over budget, and under 2000 NTD for one night with two meals seemed hard to pass up. The inn looked recently renovated once we got inside, with new decor, no bad smell, and a great overall feel.
I paid 6,480 yen for one night and two meals, even with the Yahoo! Travel discount, which feels cheap these days. The food was plentiful and delicious. I stayed in the East Wing, which seems to have been expanded recently and was very clean, though hallway noise carried into the room.
For a break after checking in, there are free drinks like coffee, tea, cocoa, milk tea, and soup. The food is tasty too, and with furikake and ochazuke available I always end up going back for seconds, lol. Prices are reasonable, so I hope they keep them that way. I hear the building was recently expanded, and I’m looking forward to trying a new room. I’ve stayed here several times for work. In Date, I usually choose between Date Onsen and Nishiki Ryokan. Nishiki’s bathroom isn’t very big, but I can bathe whenever I like. For a hot spring bath, I’d pick Date Onsen, though its rooms have a slight cigarette smell, so I often end up at Nishiki. The Japanese-style rooms here are comfortable, with air conditioning and decent space, though you can hear a little conversation.
A simple place with good food and great value. There seem to be plenty of cats around, but actually seeing them is probably down to luck. I got to meet six! (^^) Booking by phone is even cheaper than online.
I had a really good stay, and enjoyed the service, room, and meals. I was there for one night over Saturday and Sunday, October 18th and 19th, 2025. Once winter has passed and the snow starts settling, I’ll be back to use the training room at Date City General Gymnasium, and I’d like to stay here every month.
