Food is the standout here. The dishes use Hokkaido ingredients and are excellent, with a chef who clearly knows how to make a meal taste good. This is a lovely place to stay, a hidden retreat in Maruseppu. Some of the staff seemed a little inexperienced and could improve in a few areas, but the facility itself is wonderful.

The hotel had recently been refurbished and was very nice when we stayed. On a winter visit several years earlier, we loved the hot spring water, the friendly service, and the experience overall. On certain dates, there are evening trips to a nearby frozen waterfall with colorful light shows, which are worth seeing. A note about day visits: the facilities were closed until at least summer 2019 while the hotel built a separate bath nearby. Call ahead to check the current status. On our current higaeri stop, we could book a separate, pricier package: a room plus three hours of Onsen for 4000 Yen per person.

We spent one night in their cabin with our 10 friends. The place and atmosphere were lovely, and the hot spring was amazing. We’ll come back next May for another fun day.

The place is adorable, almost like a little castle, and feels much nicer than a two-star hotel. We loved the clean, lovely onsen, especially the outdoor one. Would happily come back.
