The room itself was a good deal: clean bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, air conditioning in every room, and separate rooms for women. The rooftop had a great view when the clouds cleared, though there was nowhere to sit, and shower towels cost 200 yen. The bigger drawback was getting around. The town felt almost deserted, with most shops, restaurants, and bars closed, and reaching the train station meant taking a 30-minute bus in September heat. I’d suggest Fujinomiya instead if seeing Mt. Fuji is the main reason for your trip, since it seemed livelier. We stayed in a twin room for three days. When we arrived two hours before check-in, we couldn’t leave our bags at the building because there’s no reception there. The hostel uses the lobby of another hotel two streets away, but it didn’t open until 3 PM, so we had to go back to the station and rent lockers. Once we finally checked in, we got a room entry code.

The rooftop view of Mt. Fuji honestly took my breath away. It’s a small hostel, which makes it easy for people to chat, though things usually got quiet early since everyone was heading out to explore the mountain. I thought it was a superb place.

One thing to know before booking: the guesthouse is on the fourth floor, up several flights of stairs. The owner offered to carry my luggage, so that wasn’t an issue for me. It’s a modern, clean, comfortable place, and the owner was really friendly. The roof is lovely too, though it was cloudy during my stay and I couldn’t see Mt. Fuji.

The rooftop Beer Garden was a highlight, with fried chicken and beer while we looked out at Mt. Fuji. We had a beautiful clear view, and the place felt modern and hip. It’s up on the 4F, so there are plenty of stairs, but I thought it was worth it. The owner, who’s local to Fuji city, was super family-oriented, which I liked. The staff were amazing too. They took us to karaoke bars, where we sang and drank, and then to nearby local DJ bars. Big thanks to Daisuke, Kaori and Suguru for making the trip so memorable. This was probably the best guesthouse I’ve stayed at in Japan.

A rose among the thorns, this place was extremely nice, clean, and well maintained. The views of Mt Fuji from the rooftop and our twin room window were hard to beat, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. Getting in was a little tricky because nobody was there to let us in. I emailed the owner, though, and he arrived within minutes to check us in.
