That walk up to the Onsen Hotel is seriously steep, so be ready for a bit of a workout, lol. We loved staying here. Our twin room was roomy and had a beautiful lake view, and the hotel itself is stunning. The staff were great, and the cocktail hour snacks were enough to count as dinner, so we didn't need to eat elsewhere. Breakfast was a very good buffet too. It was freezing outside, but the heating kept us warm indoors. They also supplied lots of toiletries, skincare products, yukatas, traditional shoes, and filtered water. We paid extra for the private onsen, which was a lovely way to unwind after four hectic days in Tokyo. For the price, compared with other Ryorkans I looked at, it wasn't too bad, though it depends on the room you choose. I'd recommend it and would come back. It was the best stay of our Japan trip.

The included food was a real bonus: breakfast, teatime, and an early light dinner with drinks all came with the room rate. Getting to the station could be easier, though. The shuttle stops in the middle of the day, just when most people need it, so that service needs a rethink. The hotel is lovely, with friendly and helpful staff, and our spacious, clean western-style room had a matted area by the window and extra bedding. The lake views were epic. We also found the location hard to beat, just a few minutes on foot from the lake, restaurants, and shops. There is a steep hill, though, so keep that in mind. We had a great stay and would love to visit again.

Getting around the area was easy: the shuttle picked us up from the station and took us back, and the ropeway and bicycle rental are very close. There are hiking trails around the lake, and you need to walk around it to get to Fuji. Just be ready to walk uphill every time you return to the hotel. We had a great weekend. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and spacious with a wonderful lake view, and we enjoyed both the meals and the onsen.

We spent Christmas at Rakuyu and had such a lovely stay. Our suite was spacious, beautifully designed, and really comfortable for a special holiday. The views were breathtaking in every direction, and the location was one of the best parts of our trip. Everyone on staff was warm and made things easy. Walking to or from the hotel involves a steep hill, but there are good parking options. We had an amazing time and highly recommend it.

Getting to and from the hotel means tackling a steep slope, so prepare for a bit of a workout! 😂 It’s a beautiful place and, with so few guests, it never felt crowded. The in-room hot tub was just as good as the public bath, which is nice if you prefer privacy. The lounge food was comforting, but the selection seemed limited and they didn’t replenish it later. I especially loved the raspberry tart, though they only seemed to serve one tart, cut into eight pieces, each day during the lounge buffet.
