Ooike Hotel

We were so pleased with our stay at Hotel Ooike. The dinner was fantastic, and our server Shobha was wonderful. She taught us a few Japanese phrases and remembered our names the whole time. It was our first onsen experience, and the staff kindly walked us through the etiquette and what to do. My partner has tattoos, so we were glad we could use both the public baths and a private one, which we booked for a small extra fee. From the minute we arrived, everyone was friendly and made us feel at ease. Thank you, Hotel Ooike!

Our room was a letdown. It was so cold that I was freezing, and the only way to warm it up was to turn on the air conditioner, which was too noisy. The bathroom was tiny, too. The rest of the hotel was lovely. We liked the guest lobby and its atmosphere, plus the snacks and drinks available there. Both onsens were wonderful, especially the outdoor one, which felt magical, and the mountain view was outstanding. Breakfast was delicious with lots to choose from.

The onsen has a lovely view of Mt. Fuji, and there’s convenient parking with easy access to nice sunrise spots. The room was clean and pleasant, small but had everything I needed, with thoughtful details. Breakfast was tasty and offered plenty of choices. I didn’t eat dinner at the hotel, but I’d have liked to. I’d come back if I can book the Fuji view room early enough.

The staff were kind and helpful, and the hotel itself has a modern, attractive look. The rooms were comfortable, though they seemed less luxurious than the photos suggested. Seeing Fuji from the hotel is worth it. If that room is out of budget, Lake Kawaguchi is only a short walk away for a unique view. I recommend staying here.
