A quick heads-up before the good parts: getting to Julian's without a car means taking their shuttle or hiking 1.5-2 hours along the main road. There is a sidewalk, but much of it was overgrown with weeds and bushes. We tried walking because the weather was decent, but being beside the main road made it a pretty dull hike. There are a couple of stops, like a horse farm and a cheesecake factory, but not much else. The shuttle costs 500 yen, and I highly recommend it. Once there, we had a great time. We wanted a BBQ, so we bought meat at a shop near Kobuchizawa and grilled it at the property. It cost 1500 yen per person and came with tasty potato and coleslaw salad, very good chicken, other vegetables, and a great Brazilian sauce whose name I've forgotten. A bottle of wine was 750 yen. We also got a complimentary ticket to the nearby Onsen. The rooms aren't large, but we mostly used them for sleeping. We spent the rest of our time in the dining or living room playing board games and watching the fish. Breakfast was great too, with eggs, bread, bacon, and sausages. The hosts were incredibly friendly, and I loved chatting with them. I had a blast. One practical note: they take cash only, no credit cards. I'd recommend adding cards or other digital payments since it's convenient for guests. I definitely recommend the place.

The American host was so helpful and friendly. I traveled by train to ride at Fujimi bike park, and Katrina picked me up at the station, drove me to the bike park the next morning, then let me shower at their b&b before taking me back to the station. She made the trip really easy. Thank you very much.

If you enjoy the Japanese countryside, this is a welcoming place run by a friendly couple, with a cozy spot to spend time. The nearby slopes are great for skiing and snowboarding.

The family running the place are wonderful hosts, attentive to the little details and very knowledgeable about the area. I’d happily recommend staying with them.

A great pension tucked into the Nagano hills. There’s a games room and piano, and they provide tickets for the onsen up the road.
