Fujiyama Base

We arrived late, and the lovely lady was kind enough to let us in. She was considerate and welcoming despite the language barrier. The place has a nice traditional feel and is comfortable for two.

For the price, the rooms are amazing, with lots of space and a Ryokan feel. It’s directly opposite Mt. Fuji Station, which makes it a great choice if you’re climbing Fuji. If that’s not your plan, it’s a little out of the action, and I’d suggest staying nearer to Kawaguchiko.

The room was clean, roomy, and had a view of Mt Fuji from the window. It sits right on the main street, so we heard some cars and motorcycles, though it got much quieter in the evening and didn't disturb our sleep. For the price, it was a good place to stay. We were on the second floor in what seemed like Japanese-style apartments. When we arrived, the door was locked, so we went to the cafe at the end of the building and found the owner, who runs it too. She was very kind. She didn't seem to speak much English, but we managed fine, and she gave us mandarins when we checked out. Mt. Fuji station is a one-minute walk away, with a few restaurants and vending machines nearby. You can rent an electric bicycle outside Fujiyoshida station and ride around Honcho stree and Arakura Sengen. We walked there from the hotel, but Kawaguchiko is also close enough to reach by e-bike. My wife and I would gladly stay here again if we return to the Fujiyoshida or Kawaguchiko area.

With advance notice, a late arrival and early departure were both easy to arrange. Fujiyama Base guest house also makes a good starting point for exploring the five lakes region. It's good value, though you should be comfortable with very basic Japanese-style accommodation, including sleeping on a Tatami mattress. The toilet facilities are simple too.
