There isn’t a convenience store or supermarket nearby, so keep in mind that this is a remote countryside stay. I skipped lunch, but the breakfast and dinner portions were filling enough that I never got hungry. I really enjoyed the three nights here in January and would probably return. The staff were great and polite. My room was clean and tidy, spacious by Japanese standards, with a stunning ocean view. The kids’ playground and indoor all-purpose room with toys were a nice touch, and the place seemed child friendly, which isn’t always the case in Japan. The onsen water was very good, both inside and out. Overnight guests can also use a second-floor indoor bath with a sauna and sections that switch between women and men each day, so you can try all the baths. Breakfast is buffet style with Japanese and Western choices. The Aomori Apple-Curry was a treat, definitely recommend it. For dinner, there’s a buffet or a pricier set course. I chose the set menu, with a choice of Aomori beef or abalone caught in Fukaura. Both were tasty, though not gourmet. I wasn’t keen on a few sides, like the smoked mackerel, but the hotel clearly describes its food as simple and uncomplicated. If you’re after gourmet dinners, you’ll need to go elsewhere and pay more.

The water has a strong iron smell and a light brown color, and it felt very good quality. The inside baths were hotter than most I tried around Japan. The hot bath felt like 43°, and even local bathers said it was hotter than usual. The place itself is rustic, which makes sense given how remote it is, so keep your expectations in check. The best part is the setting, with two baths right beside the Sea of Japan. One is mixed and the other is for women only. Women can ask for a cover to use the mixed bath, while men don’t need one. From my visit, the sunset is only visible from the mixed bath. The outdoor pool is pretty barebones, with no cover. After paying, you’re meant to shower and use the indoor baths, get dressed again, then head outside. It poured twice while I was enjoying the sea views. Each time, I had to choose between soaked clothes and rushing back inside, and I got drenched both times. I wish I’d known to rent a yukata and bring ziplocks to keep my things dry. It wasn’t a perfect visit, but I’d still come back and stay overnight. The sunsets and views are great, and I’d like to try it early in the morning when hopefully nobody’s around.

I visited in November 2025, and watching the sunset from those incredible outdoor baths was unforgettable. The whole complex felt beautiful and peaceful. My room was large and comfortable, with a sea view. Having the sea breeze come right into the room felt truly restorative.

We spent one night here in early September, and the bugs really are a problem. They were around and in the onsen, and in the guest room too. Maybe winter would be a better time to visit. Our Japanese-style room was dusty and seemed poorly maintained. Dinner and breakfast were buffets, but for such a remote location, you shouldn’t expect much.

After visiting hundreds of onsens over the years, this is still one of the most amazing I’ve been to. It was my second visit and the view took my breath away. You feel like you’re soaking right in the sea. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in Aomori or Akita.
