Please read: My friend and I stayed here for about five nights around New Year in January 2026. We didn’t know beforehand that it was in the middle of a red light district. I’ve heard the hotel is also a love hotel that couples rent by the hour. Two men were always at the end of our street. I looked into it and apparently they’re called touts, and they try to lure people into their bars, where they spike and rob them. Someone in Japan told us about this, and we hadn’t known before. The area felt very unsafe for tourists, especially women, so please be careful. I wouldn’t recommend it for women staying here. The hotel staff were very lovely, though.

The room is small, as with many hotels in Japan, but it was very clean, and for what we paid it was worth every penny. There were no kids running around, just adults. It’s a love hotel, but for a couple or someone traveling alone, it’s a great option. The location is central and close to everything. The amenities beat those at the five-star hotels I’ve stayed in. They had face masks, salt bath, curling iron, men’s and women’s face products, karaoke, mouthwash, bubble bath, a spa, and more. The toilet was extremely high tech and even had a noise machine for privacy. The front desk staff were very nice, and it was one of the most all-inclusive hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Thanks for having us Hotel Kabuki!

My partner and I stayed here for the final part of our trip to Japan, and it was easily the best hotel we stayed at. The location was fantastic, with plenty nearby to keep you busy and just a six minute walk to Shinjuku Station, which connects you to just about anywhere. The room was a good size, with a separate bathroom and toilet, and everything felt premium and luxurious. All the staff were very friendly. One possible downside: cleaners may start vacuuming around 1-2am. I’m pretty sure this is a Love Hotel. It didn’t bother us, but it might bother families or more prudish couples.

We stayed four nights as a couple, and I’m glad I booked this place even though, like other reviewers, I hadn’t realized it was a love hotel. The rooms were very clean, with more toiletries and amenities than some fancier, more expensive places we stayed in Kyoto. Staff were extremely nice. They asked every day if we wanted the room cleaned and offered us umbrellas on a rainy morning. The hotel is great for Shinjuku nightlife and the general atmosphere, and it’s close to the main Shinjuku station, making it easy to get around Tokyo. Some spots on the street seem to offer certain “services,” but nobody bothered or solicited us. I felt safe, including when I went alone as a younger woman to Lawson for snacks late at night. I wouldn’t suggest it for families, but I’d recommend it for couples, solo travelers, or two friends.

We really enjoyed our stay, and it was definitely worth the few pennies it cost. The service was exceptional. The rooms were quiet, clean, and stocked to a very high level, with everything from face masks and cosmetics to a hair curler. There were multi-head chargers by the bed, plus karaoke equipment and fun lighting options. The room also had a large bathroom, a separate tap for drinking water, and a fresh bottle of water each day.
