APA Hotel Fukui Katamachi

Breakfast was a real plus, with plenty of choices including proteins, curry, fruit, bread, and other starches. The breakfast staff were kind, too. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel because we were out at those hours and ate closer to where we were. There are convenience stores, restaurants, attractions, and spas nearby, and it was easy to call a taxi when we didn't want to walk. I'm writing this as someone who works at a large coastal resort in the USA, Sea Island, so I understand what it takes to run a property. Our first room, 632, developed a mildew-like odor from the restroom that spread through the room. I'm highly allergic, and it cost me sleep and gave me a bit of a headache. The front desk quickly arranged a room change without hesitation. I hadn't mentioned my allergies or headache, and they were willing to help without needing a serious reason. The move was easy, and our second room had no smell or cleanliness issues. There may be a connection between the dampness and the bed being pushed against the windowsill. It was snowing and warm in the room. My husband lay down and noticed his side of the bed was damp. When he moved the curtain, he found a large amount of water from precipitation. That happened in the first room. In the second, the head of the bed was by the window, and moisture wasn't touching the fabric or sheets. The staff made a big difference, and the breakfast was very good. For the price, I think the hotel is fair. If the situation hadn't been handled so well, this review would have been very different. Thank you. This is our second APA hotel in Japan, after our first in Tokyo. We plan to stay loyal to the brand over the next few weeks as we visit Kyoto and return to Tokyo. A note for anyone wondering: I have large tattoos, so I couldn't use the public bath. I expected that in more traditional areas and it wasn't a problem for me. Smaller tattoos can be covered with the masking provided at the front desk. I also found it easy to ask questions despite knowing only basic Japanese. Whenever I went to the desk, they could provide someone to translate.
