Houei Ryokan

The boss is very kind and really cares about the guests.

The baths are private and booked by reservation, which let us enjoy a relaxing soak. We stayed as a family and were very happy with the experience. The rooms felt clean and restful, and the food was delicious, with lots of variety and lovely colors on the plate. Choosing from the many cute women's yukata designs was fun, and they even had a good range of haori coats to wear over them, a thoughtful extra you don't often find at other inns. The staff were kind throughout. I'd like to stay here again.

I had a comfortable four-day, three-night stay without meals, and the hot bath was great. What I'll remember most, though, is the landlady's warm welcome when I arrived: "Welcome to Fukui." I'd heard good things about the breakfast, so I'd like to try dining there next time. On the way back, heavy snow meant both the express bus and train were unavailable, and I ended up taking the Hokuriku Shinkansen for the first time. 🚄

We enjoyed the delicious food, friendly staff, clean rooms, and even the manga. The meals are tasty and reasonably priced, so this place suits people who like walking, eat at their inn, or are here on a longer business stay. It's quite far from downtown, though. The main inconvenience was the lack of power outlets. Running the fridge and kettle while charging my phone was difficult, but luckily we had brought a power strip. There are two family baths, which are nice, but you use them first come, first served.
