Hotel AZ Nagasaki Shikamachiten

We drove to HOTEL AZ Nagasaki Shikamachi and were glad to find free parking for regular-sized cars, with no reservation needed. It's a suburban hotel in Shikamachi, Sasebo City, and its large lot and reasonable rates are a big draw. We were heading to Hirado City, about a 16-minute drive away. We booked dinner, and both dinner and breakfast were buffets with lots of tasty choices. The drink bar was a nice extra. The hotel offers good value overall. A couple of things could be improved: the traditional keys could be replaced with more convenient card keys, and we hope the in-room Wi-Fi gets encryption, since it didn't require a password.

This business hotel is good value. It has branches mainly around Kyushu, and I often stay at them on solo motorcycle trips. There's a convenience store, drugstore, and day-use hot spring nearby. The hot spring is only a few minutes on foot, and for 660 yen you can soak in a natural spring with continuously flowing water. Afterward, there's draft beer, edamame, and a meal. The hotel's dinner is also well regarded, so it's hard to choose.

The room wasn't especially modern, but it was kept up well and was comfortable. The hotel was being renovated during my stay, though I hardly noticed any noise. This was my first time here after many business trips, and I understand it's part of a group operating mostly in Western Japan, known for reasonable rates and breakfast-included rooms. The posted price was close to what I paid, 6,050 yen a night including tax. I drove around at about 6:30 PM looking for somewhere to eat, but there were hardly any restaurants. I went back and tried the first-floor buffet dinner for 1,210 yen including tax. The choices were adequate, and everything tasted good. It was satisfying enough that I ate there both nights. If you stay here, I recommend eating dinner at the hotel. I'd stay again.
