Smile Hotel Sasebo

The hotel parking is right across a narrow road from the entrance. It’s easy to walk downtown Sasebo, and shopping is convenient from here. I stayed one night on a business trip, and check-in and checkout were quick and simple.

The hotel is near a park, and we were really happy to walk there. I spent two nights here with two adults and an infant for just $100 for a double room, and I’m glad I chose it. Everything was clean and neat, and I liked how things were organized. Towels were replaced every day, there’s a vending machine on each floor, and the laundry service is self-service. The room might feel small by American standards, but it’s Japan, so keep that in mind. They’re strict about check-in at 3pm, with no early check-in even for an extra fee. As you’d expect from the name, this old international hotel is really good with service. Be nice and understanding. I recommend it to everyone. 💓

The staff are the best part, and the tiny room was fine. Breakfast seems to be getting worse, though, with just reheated frozen food. The location may suit some people, but I found it too bad that the hotel is beside a bunch of bars generally occupied by rowdy Americans.

The location was decent, across from a great bar called crown that had cigars, and one street down from the Ginza outdoor mall area. The hotel is older and the rooms are very small, but the air conditioning worked great. Staff were friendly, and toiletries were available in the lobby. I didn’t get to try breakfast because of work, which might have made the stay better.
