Credo Sasebo Hostel

The owner is relaxed, friendly, and very helpful, speaks good English, and will explain things or help you out. It’s well located for walking around and near the bus station. The wifi is good, and there’s a proper kitchen, which is nice since lots of hostels in japan only have a microwave and kettle. Breakfast is free and includes eggs. Everything was very clean, and it’s good value compared with other options in Sasebo. It’s an apartment, so it’s a bit small and somewhat messy overall. It feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a guesthouse.

Kouichi was very helpful and gave me all the information I needed. The place is really close to the station. I stayed for two nights.

As a woman traveling alone, I didn’t feel very comfortable here. I was the only guest, and the owner was very close to my room. The whole area is small, so I understand that may be hard to avoid. It felt awkward having to walk through the living area to get to the toilet, especially with the host watching TV and the space full of things. I ended up not spending any time there. The place had a very homey feel, and the overall cleanliness was okay. I stayed here some years ago. Other travelers had better experiences, but this was how it felt to me.

The host was kind and helped me in many ways, and the atmosphere felt really comfortable. The room had most of what I needed, so I could stay without any trouble. The bed and bedding were clean, and the duvet was so soft that I fell asleep almost as soon as I lay down. The guesthouse is about a five-minute walk from the station, up some stairs in an alley. There’s a cathedral right next door, so the view was lovely too. I wish my Japanese had been better so I could have talked more with the host. If I get the chance to visit Saseho again, I’d be happy to have a longer, pleasant chat in better Japanese. If you like guesthouses, I recommend giving this one a try.
