Hakata Excel Hotel Tokyu

The breakfast was good, with plenty of local options, and convenience stores are just around the corner. It's also easy to get around from here: the metro is close and goes directly to the airport, while Hakata and Tenjin are both walkable. The downside was the single lift in service. At times, the wait got long.

We came mainly for the location and would stay again for that reason. Tenjin is within walking distance, and Hakata Station is two stops away by train. There was a lovely Christmas Market just across the bridge, busy with people at night. We stayed four nights. The room and bathroom were spacious and clean, but the beds felt hard and uncomfortable. Breakfast had a good selection. Service at the hotel came across as rather cold and unfriendly.

The staff called a taxi for us when we checked out, which was appreciated. My dad and I had a very satisfying stay, and even walked to the pier and back, about 24 minutes each way, which was a really nice outing. The hotel is right off the airport line. If arriving at the international terminal, transferring to the domestic terminal saves you a 29-minute walk to the subway. Lawson, Family Mart and 7-Eleven are all within a minute on foot, and the original Ichiran Ramen (main branch) is right across from the hotel. I can't stop recommending this place!

I've stayed here three times now whenever I travel to Fukuoka, and I like everything about it. From exit 4 there's an escalator, then it's only a three-minute walk. Lots of convenience stores are around the hotel too. I'll stay here again next year.
