The little town was beautiful, and I wish I’d had time to explore its waterfalls. We only stayed one night at Harumiya Ryokan, but loved it. Our lovely tatami room looked out over a cherry tree and the river, and the balcony bath was great. The other four baths at the ryokan were private too, with doors you could lock. Dinner in the room and breakfast were both delightful. We booked through the website using Google Translate, and the taxi from Fukushima station took about 30 minutes and cost around 6,000 yen.

I need to cancel a room reservation I made through Relux because my travel plans changed, but I can’t find a way to do it. The website is easy to use for booking, yet it has no cancellation link, so I’m unable to cancel. I’d appreciate a reply to my question and guidance on how to cancel the reservation.

We went in late October, when the trees were showing gorgeous autumn colors, and the views were beautiful. There are also hiking paths nearby that are easy to get to. This is a quiet, cozy Japanese inn, and our room had its own bath. The staff were exceptionally friendly and had devices to help with translation since I only speak English. I’d recommend the meal plan because there aren’t many places to eat nearby. I’d already love to return.

For a traditional onsen stay away from the city and surrounded by nature, I’d happily recommend this place. I’ve been in Japan for about five years and this was one of the most relaxing ryokans I’ve visited. The food was really good, and the portions were just right for me. The service and all the thought put into the stay felt five star, especially for a very fair price. Getting there does take a while: it’s a 40-minute bus ride from Fukushima station. That wasn’t a problem for me, though it could put off someone who doesn’t like traveling far. I’m also not usually keen on futons and small pillows since I sleep on my side and often wake with a stiff neck. These were among the most comfortable futons I’ve tried, and I felt pretty good after sleeping on one, but it might still be a deal breaker for someone less tolerant.

We got there quite late, but I’d suggest arriving as early as check-in allows if you want time to enjoy this small onsen town. After checking in, we had dinner in our room and then tried the different baths. Each can be locked for private use. There were insects flying around while we soaked, which made it a little difficult, though the experience was still beautiful. We especially liked the indoor baths, with good things to use afterward, including Dyson hairdryers and cold water. This was our first ryokan stay, and we really enjoyed it. Honestly, I don’t think the hotel needs an English translator, since that dulls the experience a bit. An information sheet for foreign guests should be enough for a regular traveler to get around.
