Resort Inn North Country

We spent four holiday nights at Resort Inn North Country Furano and had a lovely time. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with up-to-date amenities. The staff made us feel especially welcome. We truly recommend staying here!

The room added to a disappointing stay: ours was on the first floor, with relatively clean sheets and covers, but the carpet was very dirty and damp. The heating didn’t warm it enough, and there was a strong musty smell. The room was uncomfortable overall. The bigger frustration was the extra guest charge. We booked in October, then called around 11:00 PM on December 21 to ask about adding someone. Staff said it would be cheaper through Agoda, or 5,000 JPY if we added the guest at the hotel. I said that on-site amount was fine. The next evening they called to say the year-end rate had jumped to over 30,000 JPY. By email, I was then quoted 17,400 JPY per extra guest, but on arrival the amount changed again to 14,300 JPY. Having several different prices for the same service in such a short time was confusing and unprofessional, with little price transparency. At other hotels on this Hokkaido trip, adding a guest usually cost around 3,000-5,000 JPY, so this stood out badly. Between the unclear pricing, the service attitude, and the room condition, I was very disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

A quiet, cozy spot for a countryside break, with lovely views and a short drive to the main attractions. The rooms are warm and comfortable, and the staff are helpful and friendly. There’s ample parking, a hot bath corner, and an in-house restaurant serving tasty meals with local ingredients. Breakfast was a good spread too. A nice place to stay while exploring the area by car.

The staff were polite and helpful, and the breakfast was a real highlight. It’s worth sitting by the window for the peaceful view of snow-covered scenery in the winter sun. The spread was very good and made up for some of the hotel’s shortcomings. Parking is ample and hassle free, and the location and value for money are good. This place has old-school charm, so don’t expect modern city furnishings. We had rooms 110 and 111 on the ground floor beside the public bath, which saved us from carrying heavy luggage upstairs. There’s no lift to the second floor. My room was also near the smoking room, which only has a knee-length curtain, and I sometimes caught a faint smell of smoke through the gap under the door. There was an old, musty carpet smell too, though you get used to it. The room was spacious compared with Tokyo. The wifi in room 111 stayed weak, about half strength, throughout our visit. It’s not perfect, but we enjoyed our stay. :)
