You can hear the river while bathing, and enjoy the nature around the hotel, which is close to the river and only a few minutes' walk from the center. The hotel onsen is lovely and fairly private. During the day you can use the public bath as often as you like when it's vacant. The Japanese-style rooms have tatami, and the bathrooms are spacious. There's a cute cat in the lobby, too. Staff were very kind and friendly, and breakfast was good and plentiful.

The room wasn't anything special, but it was fine for a stay. There are three individual onsens: one needs to be booked, and the other two are family baths. Breakfast was great, and the service was perfect. She was so kind and friendly.

The newer rooms in the new area feel light, fresh and really nice. The old rooms are basic and definitely feel old, so ask for one of the newer ones if you want a more enjoyable stay. The hotel is old but big, and the onsens are okay, with a mountainside view. Gero Onsen has felt dated for a while, but it's worth a visit if you're after a quiet break. You could also cross the river to the small public onsen. It's very hot, and you can enjoy the river from there. It's a decent place and area for a night or so. At night, walk around in your yukata and geta and get a feel for what it might have been like years ago. Gero looks nice when it's lit up.

A fair price, friendly staff and delicious food, including Hoba miso. You can enjoy the onsen together with family. Highly recommend!

The cats Mito-chan and Kou-chan were adorable. They appeared on the first floor around dusk and stayed until late. They let me pet them and play with their toys, which made me so happy. They're both shy, and if you pet them too much they'll give you a cute cat punch, lol. I have cats at home and am used to them, but everyone should pet these two at their own risk and be careful. I was back in Gero Onsen for the first time in 10 years and enjoyed seeing the new shops and having lots of new experiences. Most of all, staying at such a lovely inn made the trip really satisfying, and I'd definitely stay here again. I spent the weekend here, something I'd wanted to do for ages. The landlady was wonderful, both in personality and service. When I met her in the lobby she smiled and greeted me, and we got to chat several times, which made for a lovely stay. I fell ill during the visit and couldn't eat breakfast, so I asked if I could have it in my room. She happily agreed, and I could eat at my own pace. Thank you so much. Breakfast had a variety of dishes and they were all delicious. The guest rooms, hot springs and breakfast area were all very clean and comfortable. There are three hot springs: two private baths you can use at any time, and a cypress bath that requires a reservation. All three tubs are large enough for men to stretch their legs. My husband was very happy! I used the private bath three times, and since there are only a few rooms, I never had to wait.
