The hotel feels dated and could use renovation. Also, one of the Wagyu A5 servings at dinner didn't seem like A5 to me because the fat was too abundant and unevenly distributed. Still, it was a distinctive stay. Our room was excellent, with a valley view and a private hot water bath. We had a traditional Japanese dinner in the room and a generous breakfast the next morning. We had a nice time.

The building is beautiful, old and well cared for, and I liked the public onsen and fun little things like collecting stamps. A Vietnamese staff member who helped with dinner and in our room spoke fluent English. But I couldn't really relax during our stay. Our room on the 9th floor had a strong food-like smell, apparently coming from the ventilation or corridor. We asked for an air purifier, which helped a lot but didn't clear it completely. I also found a used pair of contact lenses in the bathroom, which made me wonder how thoroughly the room had been cleaned. We could hear people walking upstairs because the soundproofing between floors wasn't good. The food was a little basic, though there were plenty of dishes and more than enough to eat. Dessert was the best part of dinner for me. At breakfast, one staff member was very rude. He greeted us by repeating “room number, room number,” without even saying good morning.

The staff's hospitality was extraordinary, and they were friendly and attentive throughout. Check-in went smoothly, and they helped get our luggage to the room. We appreciated the welcome snack and tea too. You take your shoes off at reception and wear the hotel's slippers during your stay. We stayed two nights and really enjoyed it. There's a complimentary shuttle between Gero station and the onsen. The onsen is nearly 94 years old, built in 1931, while our room had been modernized and included all the essentials plus a private onsen. We chose the dinner and breakfast package, which worked well since the onsen is at the top of a hill and you'd otherwise need to go back into town to find restaurants. The food was tasty and beautifully presented. We'd recommend this place to anyone wanting to enjoy Gero's hot springs.

The private onsen and beautiful room made for a wonderful stay. Dinner and breakfast were both very good, and Hida beef is one of my favorite wagyu cuts. The staff were kind and attentive, though service was a bit slow because they were understaffed.

Yunoshimakan was a joy to wander around, with charming little surprises wherever we turned. The outdoor onsen was beautiful and peaceful, and we really liked dinner in a private room. The dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. The room showed its age and could use some updating, but that didn't bother us. The place's history and character more than made up for it. The staff were amazing, so welcoming and friendly, and we loved our overnight stay.
