Appi Rocky Inn

Rocky Inn worked really well for our large group. The room wasn't huge, but it was cozy to come back to after skiing, and the onsen was a quick drive away. We ate so much because everything was delicious. Breakfast was home cooked and different every morning, and dinner was just as tasty. The barbecue stove made a great place to gather, eat, and laugh with friends. Great value, and Otaki San and his family were so friendly.

We stumbled in without a reservation and the host kindly put together a generous dinner for four. Normally you need to book ahead, and if you do, there are better meat options and a chance to grill over a big fireplace. Ootaki-san welcomed us warmly and spoke with us in English about the restaurant's history and our experience. We had a hamburger steak set with a patty that was tender and juicy from the first cut, as well as excellent cod fish and chips. We found the place in January 2025, during winter, because a nearby hotel shuttle stops at “APPI HOUSE” across the road. I'm so glad we found it and hope to come back someday. 10/10, would recommend.

The freshly wood-smoked meats were a 10/10, and the beer selection was incredible. I haven't had anything quite like them anywhere else. The hosts were lovely and made us feel welcome. I was glad I walked past this hidden gem, since the map didn't even mark it as a restaurant. Definitely check out the bar and restaurant for a unique Japanese BBQ, especially for a relaxed evening after the slopes.

A fun, lively BBQ place where Otaki makes you feel like a friend and even gets the kids involved in the serious business of barbecue. You can wrap up the evening with 9-ball or darts. Rocky Inn is a quirky little gem in Appi that you shouldn't miss!
