The cottage was close to food and skiing options, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Inside, there’s lots of room, including a loft where at least 5 people can sleep. It has a small kitchen with a sink, microwave, hot plate, refrigerator, and hot water boiler, plus a raised eating area and another table. My daughter loved the little swing inside, and we found the private onsen relaxing and wonderful. The weak WiFi was the main downside, since we had trouble connecting at times. My family stayed a few days and enjoyed it. We hope to return.

We didn’t stay overnight, just stopped in after skiing at Hachimantai to soak and have a great meal. It’s a nice little Hotel/ Onsen/ Resturant with a rustic atmosphere, a wood burning stove, and a massage chair. It’s not modern, but everyone was very nice and went out of their way to communicate in english. Great place, highly suggest!

The owner was very friendly and took time to explain the facilities in detail, which I appreciated. I came for a day trip, and apparently checking in by 9 p.m. lets you stay until 10 p.m. There are two tubs, one hot and one lukewarm, though both felt lukewarm to me, around 38 degrees. I liked the water since I’m a fan of lukewarm baths. The tub with free-flowing hot spring water is about 1 meter wide, so I could stretch out and relax my joints. The downside was that the tub hadn’t been cleaned and felt old and run down. It didn’t have a charming retro Showa-era feel, just a dirty, worn-out one, so I took off a star. I’ll come back if I’m in the area.

The resident cat was friendly and cute, though I was a little worried about accidentally hitting it while parking at night. I stayed for two nights last August and booked a plan without breakfast or dinner. The hotel lets guests enjoy their stay as they please, so I felt comfortable coming back late. Having a private hot spring bath in the room, supplied by free-flowing natural spring water, was fantastic. I could soak and relax without worrying about other people.
