Hachimantai Mountain Hotel

Being directly connected to Panorama Ski Field was the best part for convenience. Breakfast had a solid selection, and I found the stay surprisingly good value for money given the location. The lobby has been beautifully refurbished, and the staff were attentive and polite throughout. My 4th-floor room was comfortable. The heating ran a little strong sometimes, but opening the windows for cool air made it cozy. I’d happily stay again.

I switched hotels at the last minute because I planned to snowboard at the nearby resort, and I’m glad I did. Staying here came with an offer at the ski rental shop. The front desk also had a cheaper day lift ticket for hotel guests, and they provided a free locker for my equipment. Breakfast was a very pleasant buffet with plenty of choices.

People here were so kind, and even though the reception staff didn’t speak much English, they tried to help with Google Translate. Their warmth made the hotel feel cozy, and I didn’t feel cold there. I’ve visited other cities in Japan, but this was the place that impressed me most. It still feels local and not many tourists seem to know it, so you can experience a real sense of friendly connection. I hope it stays that way forever.

The lounge, with its table by the window, was a lovely spot to sit and unwind when the weather was terrible for much of the day. My room was spacious, comfortable, and had a good view, though the bed was a bit hard. I stayed two nights on my Japan holiday and didn’t eat at the hotel because the buffet was expensive, or use the onsen. The staff tried their best even though I don’t speak Japanese, and they were helpful. As the only non-Japanese guest, they got to know me. I borrowed a bear bell and a fan because the automatic heating made the room too hot, and I couldn’t open the window because of insects. Be sure to visit Mori bridge, about a 20-minute walk away, and return through the prefecture park. It’s delightful in Autumn.
