We often stay at similar places, and this really is a wonderful hotel. The dinner was the best we've ever had. We'd requested a slightly different menu a few weeks ahead, and they kindly made that for us. The onsen is tattoo friendly, and the massage chair is free. One letdown was the sunset view. You come for it, but the windows were so dirty that we had to open the small one even in cold weather. The table tennis, billiards and karaoke all cost extra, which seemed odd at a hotel that isn't cheap.

I loved the atmosphere and had such a good stay. The room was spacious, and the ocean view got me excited. Dinner and breakfast were both so good, and the massage chair after a soak in the onsen was a great feeling. Guests also get coupons for chikuwa from a nearby shop. It was delicious.

The ocean-side onsens and observation deck were a real highlight. Our traditional-style room was comfortable and had beautiful views. Breakfast and dinner were included, with delicious set-menu food, and the staff were very accommodating despite the language barrier. The only small annoyance was that the property is large and can be confusing to find your way around.

The hotel is right on the coast, with views over the bay and port, and the open-air onsen also looks out over the bay. It’s an older property, but the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff are kind, and the meals are great and very filling. It’s a convenient five-minute drive to Hagi Castle town, where we bought beautiful Hagi Yaki, local craft beer and Hagi pudding.

I spent a couple of days sightseeing by car and shopping for pottery, and the large room and smaller of the two onsens suited me well. The sunset from the ocean-side rooms was stunning. The hotel offers good value, though parts of the building show their age. With all the ocean spray, keeping it maintained must be a never-ending job. The new owner has added some nice electronics, including a large TV, a DVD player with a selection of DVDs, and an air cleaner. I don't smoke, but although the room had ashtrays, there was no smell of smoke at all. Cleaning was to a high standard throughout, and the staff were well trained in service. The hotel does lack a clear identity. It’s large, with a mix of traditional displays, an art gallery, pottery and a Barbie doll collection, plus games rooms, meeting rooms, karaoke, massage rooms, a beauty parlour and a wedding venue. There’s something for everyone, but the mix could be fun for some and off-putting for others, depending on why they’re there.
