They made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived, and the meals were a real treat, both breakfast and dinner were delicious and inventive. The bath looked lovely, too. My husband forgot his walking stick, and they kindly sent it on to our next stop the following day. We couldn't have asked for better service, and I'd recommend staying here without hesitation.

The meals were a highlight: we booked breakfast and dinner separately, and both were served in our room, beautifully presented and full of flavor. We also added fugu sashimi and shabu-shabu, which was unforgettable, with notably fresh ingredients. The onsen was a relaxing place to unwind after exploring, and everything felt spotless and well cared for. We stayed two nights and wished we could have made it longer. Staff were warm, attentive, and helpful throughout. A small sign with our names outside the room and a refreshing welcome drink on arrival made the experience feel personal. The ryokan itself had a calm, authentic atmosphere. We had a lovely stay and would like to return soon.

The only things I'd change are small ones: coffee in the lobby before 8 a.m., ideally from 6 when the baths open, and some attention to the men's bath windows and stonework, which have been affected by the hot spring water. A modest renovation might bring that area back in line with the rest of the inn. Inside, Hagi Yado no Tomoe feels like a refined retreat, even though it looks plain from outside and sits in a business area near a canal. It's close to the train station, and my room was spotless, lovely in every detail, and very spacious for one. The food was superb, with each course beautifully presented. The lobby pottery collection is small and carefully chosen, and I bought a piece. I also toured a sake brewery, which was a wonderful experience. The Okami is an elegant, kind, thoughtful hostess, and the care she puts into the inn shows. The staff were kind, too. I had a wonderful time in Hagi, and the inn came close to perfect for me.

The bath was smaller than you'd usually find at a ryokan, but it was clean, nicely maintained, and had everything we needed. Our room was spotless and the service was impeccable. The dinner course was amazing, and breakfast was just as good. Replies to our emails took a while, but when we arrived, the staff had taken everything we'd discussed into account. Everyone greeted us warmly, and we were given a welcome drink made with oranges grown in the city. We had a great stay and hope to come back. :)

They even had coffee in the morning. The public bath could be larger, but everything else more than made up for that. The staff were the most hospitable we've come across among the hotels and ryokans we've stayed in, always willing to go the extra mile. I'll miss this place.
