At around 4,000 yen, these rooms are a great deal. The bed was very comfortable, with big pillows, and I think it was one of the best nights’ sleep I had on my Hokkaido trip. It’s also near Hakodate station and the tram, so getting to sights or out of town is easy. The room is basically a tiny city, and I kind of liked it. The desk and TV are tiny, but the desk worked for writing and boiling water for tea. The bathroom might be too cramped depending on your height. My friend in another room, who’s about 180 cm, couldn’t shut the bathroom door while sitting on the toilet because his knees were in the way. There are snacks and drinks in the lobby vending machine, plus washing machines with built-in tumble dryers. Staff were helpful when I had an issue with one of the machines, and they let you leave your luggage after checkout so you can explore your last day without carrying your suitcase. It’s a basic place, but it does the essentials well for the price.

For 5,000 yen a night, I thought this was extremely good value, especially if you’re a Mariott Bonvoy member. It’s not a four-star hotel, but it’s a great fit for a solo traveler who won’t spend long in Hakodate. I’d book again. It’s right by the station, with plenty of restaurants, bars, and convenience stores nearby, making it handy for sightseeing or business. My room was small, about what you’d expect from a Japanese business hotel, and suited one person with a small suitcase. The shower ceiling was high enough that it didn’t rub my head, which isn’t always the case in business hotels. I stayed one night on a short trip. Staff were friendly, check-in was quick, and checkout was easy using the Express Checkout box on the first floor.

The rooms are about the size of a cruise cabin, so keep that in mind when booking. They’re small and Japanese style, and may not suit a family or someone sharing who doesn’t understand what a “double” means in Japan. Still, as the sun sets over the harbor and the city comes into view, the room’s size fades into the background. It’s a short walk from the Hakodate terminal, surrounded by local Hokkaido restaurants run by some of the kindest people you can imagine. The housekeeping and front desk staff helped with every small thing I asked for, with patience and kindness that I really appreciated. A no-nonsense room in one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. I’m truly grateful to the team for making my stay feel special through the care they show every day.

A good choice for solo travelers at a very competitive price. It’s right near the JR train station, and the hotel provides all the amenities, even a safe box. Check-out is at 11 AM. The bathroom is small and tight, as expected.

Clean, comfortable room and a well-priced stay when I booked. There are lots of food options nearby, and the red brick warehouses are about a 20-minute walk away. Hakodate station and the tram stop are both around five minutes on foot.
