The price was reasonable, and the shared room we stayed in was thankfully quite spacious. The place is on the second floor of a lady's home, in a strikingly stark neighborhood that looked like a deserted village when we arrived. It's a bit out of the way for Hakodate, and it wasn't the cleanest place I stayed in Hokkaido.

If you have another option, stay somewhere else. If you end up here, expect very little from the bed. This is an old couple's house, not really a hostel. It was dirty, there was no air-conditioner or usable Wifi, and we had to pay for hot water in the shower. Fourteen people were packed into a small room, shoulder to shoulder while sleeping. There are two good points: it's not too far from Hakodate Station, about 30m on foot, or around 10m to the nearest bus station. At night you can enjoy a downtown atmosphere with some Hokkaido food restaurants. Also, there's a 7-eleven convenience store just to the left of the hostel. That's about it. Book early before visiting Hakodate, especially in August.

It was no Hilton, and even basic things were missing. The soap bottles were empty, there was a charge to use the shower, and the interior was generally messy. We paid the same for an air bnb near Tokyo, which was also shabby but felt much better organized. The couple running this dilapidated place were odd. We slept packed close together, Tetris-style. Through no fault of the accommodation, we ended up beside a man who snored loudly and hogged the fan.

Horrible, do not go there. You might sleep in a garage with motorcycles and the door open, or in an overcrowded room that smells of dog and pee. I was put in a windowless room with old mattresses and blankets, and it grossed me out. I didn't shower because it cost extra, and I didn't use the bathroom either because it was dirty and disgusting. One word: EWWWW!!!!
