Hakone Elecasa Hotel and Spa

The building and rooms felt spacious, clean, and elegant, and the food was delicious. Everyone provided great service. Miss Hagiya was especially kind and helpful, and spoke excellent English. The shuttle made getting to and from the hotel easy. I’d recommend staying here if you’re visiting Hakone.

It was quiet and didn’t feel crowded, which I liked. The hotel is in a peaceful area, and the dining room has a nice view. I also loved the food and the service. I noticed a poster complaining about the no-tattoo rule. That’s pretty common in Japan. I have tattoos, and my husband booked us here because our room had a hot spring tub. At other hot spring hotels, I’ve found staff will usually let you use the communal spring after hours or when it’s quiet if you ask. I didn’t ask here since we had the tub in our room.

The food was clinic and beautifully presented, and the onsen was exemplary. Yamado was especially helpful. We’d left some important things in the safe and had to return after checkout. When he welcomed us back, he stayed calm and friendly and helped us retrieve everything efficiently.

The walk from the train station was difficult, so I’d recommend coming by car. Still, the staff were very thoughtful: I forgot to return the room key, and someone brought it all the way to premium outlets so I wouldn’t have to go back. The room was lovely and convenient, and dinner was an eight-course meal with the best food I’ve ever eaten. Definitely worth the price. Six out of five stars from me.
