Hakone Hotel

We had no trouble communicating, as the staff spoke good English. They even arranged luggage forwarding to our next hotel. Their professional, helpful service made my partner’s fiftieth birthday unforgettable, and I especially want to thank Miss Mambyo for her outstanding help. The bus ride took a while, but staying here was completely worth it. The scenery was unbelievable, the atmosphere peaceful, and the lake view from our room stunning. We were lucky enough to see Mt. Fuji from there, too. The amenities were extensive and well maintained.

Over our three-day, two-night stay, we could relax in the guest lounge with free coffee, tea, or matcha latte and enjoy the lake view whenever we liked. The floor-to-ceiling window in our room looked out over Lake Ashi, and the view was unforgettable. The staff also helped write a birthday card for my husband on my behalf. It was a lovely surprise and such a heartwarming gesture. The hotel is right by Hakonemachi-Ko port station, where we bought tickets and boarded the 'pirate' cruise ship for more lake views. We’d come back for the calming atmosphere and scenery. Two thumbs up! 👍👍💞

We spent two nights here and highly recommend it. The lakeside location has lovely views of the surrounding mountains, and Mt.Fugi on clear days. We got lucky with the weather. Our room was spacious at 38m and well appointed, though a little dated, and the onsen was lovely. Staff were extremely helpful and attentive. There’s a bus stop right at the entrance, convenient for the activities and museums we had planned. If you’d rather eat outside the hotel restaurants, several small places are within walking distance.

The hotel is right by Hakone Machi-ko, where you can get the Hakone freepass and finish the round trip tour just before reaching the hotel. It’s a spacious room, relatively clean though dated, and a lake-view room lets you see Mount Fuji. There’s a coffee machine with free capsules replenished daily, but the TV only gets about ten channels, all in Japanese. The traditional key has to be left at the counter. One annoyance was the shower thermostat, which didn’t hold steady and made the water temperature fluctuate. Most shops nearby close around 3-4pm, with most shut by 4pm. In December, only three restaurants nearby were open in the evening. Two cafes next to the hotel, one Indian and one Mediterranean, have vegan and vegetarian options, and there’s one more cafe opposite.
