Arisu No Izumi

There’s a microwave in the dining room, and each room has a kettle, cups, drinking water, a hairdryer, toothbrushes and towels. There’s no loungewear. I counted about eight hangers. The drying room didn’t have any, so I used the ones from my room. My room had its own toilet and bath. There’s also a shared bath that fits two adults. The shampoo and other toiletries were good quality. Simple board games are available in the dining room, but you need to book a time slot.

A lovely inn, with breakfast available if you ask for it. We had an indulgent spread with egg dishes, fresh-baked bread, delicious fruit and yogurt, and it was lovely to sit looking out over the garden. There was music playing in the bath, which made it feel like being in Austria. Above all, the owners were warm and wonderful. I’d definitely stay at Alice's Fountain again if I come to Hakuba. The room was tiny, with barely more than the bed and a cramped hallway. The bath is charged by the hour, and silver sheets floating in the water to save money made me worry about hygiene.

Ochikura Plateau is a beautiful forest for snowshoeing and backcountry skiing.
