Hakuba-ism

We booked through Airbnb and stayed four days. It’s cozy and comfortable, with a fridge, microwave, electric stove, and the other amenities we needed, though there’s no Wi-Fi. Restaurants are within walking distance, and it’s a nice place to unwind. The tap water tastes great, so we didn’t need a filter.

We stayed warm thanks to the effective heating, and the house was quiet with no noise from neighboring guests. Getting to rental cars and the ski areas was convenient, and we used both Happo-One Ski Resort and Goryu Night Ski Resort. Parking was the one awkward part: a neighbor’s car made it hard to park, and a marked space would have helped.

The cabin stayed warm even during a snowstorm at -3°C, and the futons were very soft. It was clean, and service was quick and attentive. There’s a washing machine, but bring detergent; there’s no dryer, though a portable clothesline is provided. We visited Hakuba as a family for the first time and enjoyed the snowy mountain views on our walks. The little wooden house is near the end of the street, about 30 minutes on foot from Hakuba Station, Happo Station, and Happo Onsen. Without a car, getting groceries or going out for dinner in rain or snow wasn’t very convenient. Nearby dinner choices were limited and expensive, and most places in Hakuba close at 8 PM, so it’s best to have groceries on hand. I’d definitely return.

This is an affordable lodge in Hakuba, and it stayed warm thanks to the bedding and fireplace. There are dishes in the kitchen, but using them for a BBQ is generally prohibited. A BBQ area is available, so bring your own dishes and cups if you plan to grill. You’ll also need to bring a BBQ set, or pick one up nearby at Komeri for around 3,000 yen.
