The back way can save you the uphill walk, though snow monkeys sometimes block that shortcut. After all the ramen, the walk is manageable anyway. The Happo 1 gondola is about five minutes away, with food and ski gear hire along the main strip nearby. Our room was neat and warmer than expected, the shower was spotless, and the toilet seats were heated. Breakfast was delicious, especially the cappuccino and hot chocolate from the lovely staff. My boyfriend and I had such a pleasant four days, and the place has lovely cabin vibes. The snow monkeys are pretty chill, and that photo was real, not AI. Ten out of ten, we’d recommend it and stay again.

Our room smelled musty, and the bedsheets were stained and didn’t seem clean. The heater was dirty and didn’t work. There were cockroaches and ants all over the room and bathrooms, and we even found a bug in the water jug. Avoid this place.

The restaurant has a cosy layout and a good wine selection, and the prices felt quite reasonable given post Covid inflation. I’d make the detour again. The Shinshu salmon with herbs was fantastic, and the pasta was delicious. We had the wagyu bolognese, and the Cacio & pepe was excellent too. The tartiflette had a generous amount of reblochon, even by French standards.

It was surprisingly cheap to share a room with a mate, and the futon beds suited us perfectly. The place feels homely, private, warm and clean. Breakfast was lovely, with cereal, toast, eggs, soup and more. The host speaks Japanese, English and French, and the common room is cosy with a fireplace. Chairlifts and bars and restaurants are within walking distance. I’ll definitely be back.
