Hakuba Mountain Lodge

For a large group focused on skiing and riding, the location is handy: Hakuba Goryu is under a five-minute drive away, and there's a warm room for ski gear. Goryu also has night skiing, which is a nice bonus. There's plenty of parking for the many guests, with a couple of restaurants, a public bath and ski rentals only a short walk away. The management were kind and genuine, and we did appreciate our stay, but my rating is based on our three-bunk room. The rooms vary a lot, so I can't judge the others. One housemate did mention that a huge chandelier in another room rattled through the night. Our room's bedding and mattress weren't acceptable for a villa of this size and felt more like hostel beds. The door handle was broken, so our door stayed open all night. The toilet tap leaked a little, and showering soaked the whole bathroom. At least there were hot showers in the heated bathroom downstairs, along with two wooden tubs you could fill for a private onsen. The heating was uneven too, and the family took turns sitting by the heater at breakfast to stay warm.
