Lodge Hitokkira

Masuyama-sama and his wife offer generous service at this lovely lodge. He even offered to take guests to and from the gondola in his small truck. The rooms are cosy, with ensuite bathrooms but no showers. Lawsons, Hakuba Bus Station and the local onsen are conveniently close, and it’s a short walk to the slopes and bars. A great place to stay in Hakuba.

Everything was extremely clean, and the staff were super friendly. It’s a great spot, four minutes from Lawson convenience store and five minutes from the bus station. The slopes are a 15-20 minute walk depending on your pace, though the owner drove us there each day. The onsen is lovely and well kept. Just know the showers are in the onsen and the beds are Japanese style, which may not suit everyone. As a tourist, I found this much more interesting than a regular hotel or cabin.

The owner had a very good translator, so it was easy to communicate. I spent a week here while visiting Hakuba Ski Resort. The room was small, but spotlessly clean, and you make up your own bed on the tatami. The bathhouse was roomy and had a hot spring bath. There were coin-operated washers and dryers, free massage chairs, and a drying room with a repair station for skateboards. Shoes could be dried in the room or by a heater. Hachifusa bus terminal and Lawson supermarket were both about a five-minute walk away.

The bath was a lovely place to unwind, and I could relax over the luxurious breakfast and dinner too.
