Restaurant & Hotel Traumerei

Träumerei has a quiet sense of legacy, shaped by decades of care and a consistent vision. It doesn’t feel commercial or driven by trends. For anyone who values thoughtfulness over fashion, this place feels special. Founded in 1981 by Mr Nishino, it’s an auberge in the Hakuba mountains built around French cooking, wine culture, and the idea that dinner should be an experience rather than something scheduled. The setting and unhurried evening reflect that dedication. The French chef dinner was outstanding: refined, precise, and beautifully balanced. Each course showed real care, and this is a serious culinary destination, not simply a hotel restaurant. After dinner, we spent time with Mr Nishino as he shared wine, sake, and whisky. The conversation centred on taste and enjoyment, not labels or status. It’s rare to find hospitality that feels so grounded and confident.

The restaurant was impeccable, and the free daily private onsen was a highlight. There was also a shuttle right outside for nearby ski resorts, plus a free transfer at the beginning and end of our stay. Such a beautiful place, with wonderfully friendly staff. We'd definitely come back.

Nagi made our stay at Traumerei really memorable. He even offered to drive us to the slopes on our first day. The rooms were cozy, the onsen was lovely, and the hospitality was incredible. Great location too. We had an amazing time.

We planned to stay three days, but left after one. There was extensive water damage across the floor and ceiling, and the room smelled strongly of mildew.
