Hotel Hakusan Hills

The hotel is quite a walk from the station, so it seems geared toward people arriving by car. The rooms are small, but manageable, and that can actually help with air conditioning in winter and summer. I appreciated the free breakfast, evening drinks, and midnight noodles. The washing machine and dryer cost nothing, and even a full tub cleaning is free, despite taking about 10 hours. That's a real advantage over other hotels. The large public bath is available too. Maybe because it was managed by a foreigner, the lights were switched off almost immediately after the bath closed, which shocked me and really spoiled an otherwise highly rated stay.

I booked at short notice for the Kanazawa Marathon and found the stay a lot more comfortable than I expected. The window had a beautiful view, and the small room still had everything I needed. The front desk staff were very friendly and breakfast at the restaurant was delicious. I didn't have time to try the large public bath, but I'd stay here again next time and would definitely use it then.

It's not that close to Kanazawa Station, but there's a Costco next door. The facilities aren't new, though they're well maintained. For the price, it's great value: the large public bath, welcome drinks, massage machines, manga, midnight noodles, and breakfast buffet are all free. Drinks, including alcohol, soft drinks, and draft beer, cost 200 yen. There's only one good izakaya nearby. Still, if I have business in the area again, I'd stay here.

My room was on the small side, but it was clean and I had no complaints. There aren't restaurants right around the hotel, but you can find restaurants and supermarkets between the station and the inn, which makes for a nice walk. Most guests seemed to be men staying several nights for civil engineering and construction work. Breakfast starts early, at 6 a.m., which is handy.
