Ryokan Fujiya

The seafood dishes were a real treat, especially the delicious sashimi. We also had a lovely view of Lake Hamana, and I’d recommend the second floor. Meals are served in private rooms, which makes it a good setup for families with small children.

We stayed with our 1.5-year-old, and the inn had lots of helpful things for families with young kids, including a diaper bin, family bath and baby bath. The meal included unagi and was delicious, and our room faced Lake Hamamatsu, so we could watch the sunset from the window. The building is old, but the areas that needed it had been renovated nicely and the room was comfortable. There’s a swimming beach right in front, with an outdoor shower, so I’d like to come back in summer. The landlady who greeted us and showed us around was friendly, and the price seemed reasonable compared with nearby inns.

Getting here was a bit confusing for me, and reaching the parking area means going down a narrow alley. I think taking the bus or walking would be easier. Still, it’s a hidden gem. I arrived today, with check-in available from 3 PM, and had chosen the all-you-can-drink option, so I could have beer, oolong tea and other drinks until 8 PM. The room was Japanese-style, with chairs and a table facing the lake. The water looked mysteriously blue, almost glowing, and the hot spring water had a slight yellow tint. I recommend it!

We came as a family with a toddler and found it easy to settle in. The rooms were spacious, and the hospitality was flexible, so we could relax in an open, comfortable space. Our room looked out over the lake. They supplied children's amenities and a diaper disposal bin, which made the stay worry-free with a little one. We were all very happy.
