That November stop on our tour was a good one. The room had some age to it, but it was clean, and the bicycle parking area was thoughtfully arranged. I also remember the lovely young women with their Showa-era smiles.

The kids were delighted to find toys there, and we got to relax during our one-night stay. The location worked really well for us. We’d happily stay again, and would like to try picking mandarin oranges if we get the chance.
I’d like to come back when the weather is better and try picking tangerines in the orchard on the mountain behind the inn. Bad weather cut this stop short, so I could only sleep there and didn’t get to eat. Still, the old building was very clean, the lake view from the room was beautiful, and the landlady was kind and lovely. This was my first time staying there on a long journey, and I was glad I stopped. Dinner’s eel and sashimi were excellent, as was the Japanese and Western-style breakfast. I left very satisfied, and happy to have learned some new things.
The owner remembered why we’d stayed for an extended visit the first time, studying for an exam, when we met again after a long while. My companion blushed. The proprietress still sets us up at the farthest table where we used to study during the day, as if it’s our usual spot. You don’t get that kind of personal hospitality at a big hotel. Priceless. Breakfast in the cafe restaurant, with the morning sun coming in, is generous and really good. The cafe’s Mikkabi Burger is enormous, so I’d use a knife and fork if you want to eat it neatly. It tastes great, of course. And the pizza was a surprise: I expected the crust to be the weak part, but cheese oozed from inside. A hidden gem! The building and facilities are older, but everything’s kept clean, and the guesthouse is great value.
We came by with a group on a motorcycle tour. The owner was warm and sincere, and the katsu curry tasted great, helped by the plate being warmed beforehand. The water is lemon water, which made it easy to drink. I’d like to visit again.
