Kenji No Yado

It's close to the facilities related to Miyazawa Kenji, which was really convenient. I spent two nights here in June 2024. The room was spacious and clean, and I liked that it didn't feel like a hotel. The owner arranged the order for us to use the cypress bath. It was a little hot, but I could still relax in it. The sink and toilet were shared, though close to the room, so it wasn't a bother. Even though it was a bed-and-breakfast, there was a convenience store within walking distance, so that was no problem. I'd stay here again if I get the chance.

I visited in September 2025 and would really recommend this inn to people traveling to Hanamaki. Even during the Hanamaki Festival, the price was still affordable. It's easy to reach Shin-Hanamaki Station on foot, which works well for travelers using the Shinkansen. From Hanamaki Airport, you need to take a taxi, though it's not far. The surroundings are quiet, and you can walk to Miyazawa Kenji Fairy Tale Village and the memorial museum. The owner kindly explained the inn's facilities, and the service was attentive. The inn was clean and tidy, with Miyazawa Kenji decorations and children's drawings that felt soothing. The room was spacious and comfortable, with good soundproofing. The baths are reserved for individual use in time slots, which was very comfortable. There aren't other restaurants nearby at night, but there are two convenience stores.

The warm feeling throughout the place was nice. This is a pretty unusual inn, somewhere between a pension and a business hotel. The room has a pension feel and isn't very spacious, but it's easy to use. The toilet and sink are shared, so it may not suit people who aren't comfortable with that. There are two baths, more like guesthouse baths, and you book them by the hour. Even with two baths, everyone except the first guest uses a bath after strangers have been in it. If that bothers you, check in early and try to book the first slot (lol). If being close to other people doesn't bother you, it's a very reasonably priced place to stay, so it's up to you. You can ask the front desk to use a drum-style washing machine in turns. Hanging laundry in your room should get it dry overnight, so that's useful even for a one-night stay.

There are two convenience stores, Seven-Eleven and Lawson, within a five-minute walk. I stayed one night in early August during a week-long trip around northern Tohoku, visiting Jomon archaeological sites, local hot springs, and the Tachineputa festival. I checked in late and planned to leave early, so the reasonable room-only price suited me well. The other guests were quiet that night, which I appreciated. At check-in, they thoroughly explained the facilities and rules, and I was glad the air conditioning was already on in my room. There was a refrigerator in the room, and instant coffee and Japanese tea in the shared area. The cypress bath was available in 30-minute slots that could be arranged ahead of time.
