Kominkayado Oniwa

The view from the terrace was stunning and relaxing, and we could see lots of stars at night. The traditional house at ONIWA felt cozy and warm. We were surprised to learn from the host's photos that the family had done the renovation themselves. My husband and I were welcomed so warmly; we enjoyed the local food they prepared and sharing meals and conversations with the family. It was memorable, even though we don't speak Japanese very well. In the morning, we got to cook rice in a traditional oven. It was interesting, and the rice tasted delicious. I'd love to return to Hasami someday.

The view alone made the trek into Hasami worthwhile, and I'd visit again if I get an international license. Takuma-san renovated the place himself, and the food was delicious. My husband and I don't really speak Japanese, but with Google Translate, Takuma-san and Yukino-san were warm and kind throughout. They were amazing hosts in every way.

We only wish we'd had more time at Oniwa. We loved every part of our stay and would absolutely recommend spending a night there, or even 2-3.

Fresh local ingredients go into the meals, and even the soy sauce is made by the family. We especially enjoyed the green tea from a nearby tea farm served after each meal. It was lovely sharing meals and the experience of staying in a stylish home in Hasami with a friendly Japanese family. A wonderful family hosts the one-night, two-meal stay. We met many friendly people in Hasami, and it seemed like everyone in the neighborhood knew one another, which felt warm and amazing.
