Iwaso

A great spot to slow down for a couple of days while traveling around Japan. This traditional inn is ideally placed on Miyajima, with wonderful people, a tremendous Onsen, and great food. Highly recommend.

We had a good time during our two nights here as two adults, and would happily return or recommend it. The rooms were traditional and clean, the surroundings were lovely, and it was quiet and calm. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the shuttle ran to and from the ferry. You can ask for ice at the front desk, and they lay out your futon each night and clear it away during the day. The bathroom was always freezing because it’s up by the windows. Beyond that, the stay matched what we expected, and there wasn’t much we’d have changed.

The food didn’t impress me. I’ve had much better meals at ryokan in the same price range, and I’d eat elsewhere on the island next time since there are lots of good options. Still, I’d book Iwaso again for its location. It’s in a great spot on Miyajima, just steps from many attractions, and the onsen was relaxing with nice scenery.

We had such a good experience and I’d definitely come back. The rooms are large and clean, and the view from the bathroom is incredible, with what looks like a forest right outside. You can really feel surrounded by nature. The mattress was very soft, though I didn’t expect that. It’s easy to walk to the island center and its shops, and the funicular up the mountain is also within walking distance. The traditional Japanese meals were tasty, even if some dishes may feel exotic. They also have a good kids’ menu. Breakfast is Japanese style, so picky eaters might want to bring their own food. In the afternoon they serve Japanese tea and pastries.
