Miyajima Hostel Kaniwa

The only issue for me was the strong mildew smell in the shower area of our room. Otherwise, it was a beautiful place to stay, with a nice room and a great view. The staff were fantastic, and the scenic bath was relaxing too.

The cabin-like rooms made it easy to unwind, and the top-floor onsen was a nice extra. In the lobby there was space to sit with a drink or ice cream. Service was friendly and great, like most places in Japan. The buffet for breakfast and dinner was available, but I thought it was a little expensive, around 9,000, so I went to the small cafe by reception instead. It only had three or four choices. There are other places to eat on the island, although some close early. The hotel can call a restaurant to arrange a reservation so it will stay open.

We were there for one night recently and loved it. The staff were lovely, and the room was notably spacious, which isn't always the case in Japan. The ferry terminal is right across the way, but even at busy times it wasn't noisy. I'd definitely recommend staying here.

My wife and I stayed in a loft room with half board, and it was a really nice experience. The reception ladies were pretty and friendly, LOL, and the dishes tasted heavenly. I especially liked the cold dishes. One thing to know, though: the steamed oysters were a bit overcooked. As a big oyster fan, I was disappointed.
